On July 24, 2023, the Chicago Police Department received a complaint for a trespassing incident in the area of 300 W. 56th Place. Chicago Police officers monitored the area through a Police Observation Device (POD) and observed a group of individuals in a cul-de-sac. Several Chicago Police Officers arrived in the area in four unmarked police vehicles.
Upon their arrival, officers exited their vehicles to engage the group of individuals on foot as well as an individual driving
a black sedan. While on foot, multiple officers attempted to engage the driver of the black sedan, as the vehicle
attempted to leave the area, striking a police vehicle, and ultimately fleeing the scene. During this altercation, two
officers discharged their firearms at the moving sedan. Currently, no one is in custody.
Event # 04820 This is a BWC arrest. This is an on view arrest by CPD/USMS Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. In
summary, A/O’s were informed by IRT Detectives that there was probable cause to arrest Deontae Johnson IR# 1972437 for
Attempt Murder/P.O. Deontae Johnson had been previously identified via photo array as the offender who used his vehicle as
a weapon, almost striking officers who were on foot during an investigatory stop.Johnson fled the scene, making several
reckless vehicle maneuvers in attempts to avoid the stop, to wit: impacting a City of Chicago unmarked squad car and a
residential wooden fence; all while disregarding Officers’ verbal commands to stop the vehicle. This incident occurred on 24
July 2023, at the location of 357 W. 56th Pl. This incident was documented under RD# JG354594. On todays date, A/O’s
were equipped with an I-clear generated photograph of Deontae Johnson, and positively identified him on the street. A/O’s
conducted a stop and placed Johnson into custody without incident. Johnson was transported to the Area 4 Detective Division
HQ for further processing. Not on parole/probation. This is not a pod arrest. Arrestee has $367 USC on him. Prisoner
